THE HISTORIC CITY OF VIGAN: A World Heritage Site

Vigan City ArcEstablished as the capital of the north in 1572 by Juan de Salcedo, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture blends cultural elements of Asia with those of Europe, creating a unique culture and townscape without parallel anywhere else in Asia. Vigan was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1999 for its exceptional cultural value.
